” Super Interesting Indian Cuisine “
“Delicious food and great service! Spoilt for choice. The chilli paneer is very tasty and the dosas are soo moreish!! Managed to squeeze a dessert in too which was a take on an Eton mess but far better and layered with flavours!
You can tell the owners really care about the food as it’s reflected in the service and attention to detail in the food.”

Talk to the owner about how he created the dishes, his passion shines through!

“ The food is next level, something for everyone ”
“This place you have to try! After driving past it so many times we decided to check it out. The vibe is lovely and relaxed, the food is next level and the staff took the time to tell us about the dishes we were eating and how they are made and where they originate, exceptional cuisine! Something for everyone too in terms of dietary preference. Be back again soon no doubt. .”

“Out of humble beginnings, some of the best things are born – and so it is with Amma’s Canteen.”
“It’s a homely, heartening dish – exactly what Saju wants to give people at Amma’s Canteen.
“When I was looking at opening somewhere I wanted to eat, I found in the UK there’s not much Indian home food,” Saju says.
“This is just like the menu inside our house. If somebody comes to my house it’s what I like to cook for them.”
His friends must be knocking his door down for dishes like this; short of an invitation round, the rest of us will have to content ourselves with Amma’s.

“ DOES AMMA’S CANTEEN IN CHORLTON DO THE BEST DOSA IN TOWN? ”
“DEFINITELY. On a first visit to the South India restaurant opposite Southern Cemetery we chickened out of their signature version filled with spinach and red kidney beans because I have an aversion to the latter.
A colleague calls it ‘inspired’.
I found inspiration of my own in the standard Masala Dosa with its ample filling of crushed potatoes and cashew nuts inside the vast, lacy, crisp rice and gram batter crepe.

“Everyone’s talking about Amma’s, and with good reason ”
“Yet Amma’s is a joy.
I like everything about Amma’s, actually. The contrast between location and food, the sun-kissed flavours of every dish, the way Saju comes out and chats to everyone about their meal, quizzing them about what they like, what they’d change, is great.
Plus Saju’s wife Ganga is doing a great job front of house. . “
